So much classier than old small blocks

Oooohhhh
![]() 01/26/2015 at 16:16 |

tell me how much classier it is when you see it is mostly all the same stuff inside :)
![]() 01/26/2015 at 16:17 |

Yeah... but this one has a badge! On the engine!
![]() 01/26/2015 at 16:19 |

and when getting to that same old stuff requires some BMW specific fancy tool available only at the dealer for exorbitant prices

Class be dambed. I'll take the small block.

I did a Pontiac 400 last winter, I'm interested to see how this compares to a 40 year old American V8

Hammer.

In 3 words: much more complex. I'm guessing.

There was one BMW engine in the whole shop at college, and it was not one of those. We mostly had GM, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota engines from 20 years ago.

That's a Benz M113 V8 with a BMW badge on it. Edit: M112 V6, thought the pic was hiding the frontmost ports.

They thought of that. Outside of the bolt's torque spec.

This one has a badge on it!
![]() 01/26/2015 at 16:42 |

PSH there can only be one M113

Dem high revs tho!

Ford 427 SOHC would be a closer comparison as far as parts are concerned.
![]() 01/26/2015 at 16:48 |

Begs to differ... ;)

Totaly. Its like comparing a digital quartz watch to a one of those swiss watches with 1000 springs, gears, levers and weights.

Look familiar?
![]() 01/26/2015 at 16:51 |

Nor do I expect you'll need it to be. Serving as an educational tool is about the only time one of these would be out of the car.

Fun! You will be one of very few people to know what the insides of these look like! Aside from the inside of the valve covers anyway.
I'm amused by the BMW badge on the coil pack that's sitting next to the air pump instead of on top of the valve cover where it's supposed to be.
Are you putting it back together too?
![]() 01/27/2015 at 02:49 |

I had thought the exact same thing.

As far as Mercedes goes this is pretty archaic.
![]() 01/27/2015 at 07:34 |

Dat low torque tho.

Whats this out of? And why are you tearing it apart?
